Sypniewski heads back to Greece

Igor Sypniewski has accepted a loan move to newly-promoted Greek club Kalithea from TS Wisla Kraków.

One-year deal
The experienced former Panathinaikos FC midfield player has agreed a one-year contract with Kalithea though the club have not revealed what fee they have paid Wisla for Sypniewski’s services.

Traumatic period
The move to Greece ends a traumatic period for the 27-year-old who returned to Wisla after a successful six-month spell with Ekstraklasa side RKS Radomsko in the winter.

Unhappy time
Sypniewski played just a few weeks for Wisla before leaving the club, claiming he needed time to rest and recuperate at his home in Lodz. The midfield player had run into trouble at Wisla where he was accused of drug taking while undergoing a divorce this year.

Poland hopes
Wisla decided not to terminate his four-year contract to leave the player the option of returning to the club. Before his personal troubles took over, Sypniewski had looked a strong candidate to join the Poland squad for the FIFA World Cup finals.

A new start
The player’s father, Stefan Sypniewski, was certainly hoping that a move back to Greece would help his son get over his troubles. “Igor has been accused of many bad things,” he said. “Most of it was complete rubbish. It is pointless now to comment on all this craziness. It is better for Igor to leave the country and play abroad.”

Greek experience
Sypniewski has bounced back and forth between Poland and Greece since he moved from Polish lower league side KS Ceramika Opoczno to FC Kavala in 1996. He soon moved on to Panathinaikos but a falling-out with coach Angelos Anastasiadis quickly soured relations in Athens and he was loaned out to OFI Crete before returning to form with Radomsko.
