WARSAW, Poland. Feb 10 — Several giants from the football world want to play against Poland. After Spain the Poles next rivals may be the English national team!
This is the second surprise opponent to be mentioned after it was announced a few days ago Poland would face European champions Spain.
“England is a team from the top shelf. One of the main candidates for the gold at the World Cup in South Africa. Playing with them would be a great prestige. Last time we overcame them was in 1973, so it will not be a match for nothing,” tells Fakt the clearly pleased Franciszek Smuda.
It has been reported that the English FA has willingly accepted the match with the Poles, but this is yet to be confirmed. The game is likely to be played in autumn, because May and June will be too difficult to arrange a meeting. During this period, Poland has already booked matches with Serbia and Spain.
Meanwhile, Smuda is already glad to see that even the strongest opponents want to play against his team.
“I have always said that we will have to gradually raise the bar. We started with a low ceiling. But come closer the UEFA EURO 2012, we will play with even stronger teams. No other way to success,” added Franz.
In autumn it is also possible that the white and red may be able to face Germany. But this is not yet determined, especially such a date for when this match would be played.
“Spain, Italy, England, Germany, such rivals that I wished for. If anyone thought that the last two years fans would get bored with me, I assure you that they are very wrong.” concludes the Poland boss.
Poland was previously slated to play Italy, but Sportfive (Poland’s manager firm) has admitted that due to difficulties this fixture will not be possible.
Instead of Italy other footballing powerhouses such as England, Germany, Portugal, and Brazil have been speculated as possible replacements.
