WARSAW, Poland. Apr 09 (PSN) – Shortly after the match Polonia Warszawa vs KKS Lech Poznań (1-0) in the tunnel leading to the locker room Euzebiusz Smolarek was trying to explain himself about the Manuel Arboleda situation.
This is after which the Black Shirts player was removed from the field by a red card. The Popular Ebi feels betrayed of what set him off.
During the “explanation” Ebi claims he was provoked on the field by Arboleda. The Lech defender complained to journalists that during the whole match he was fouled by the Pole and the evidence showed in his injured knee.
“He provoked me and he got a yellow card for it. Every player would have done the same thing at my place,” Smolarek told Orange Sport after the match.
The player also said he did not know where he hit Arboleda, because everything happened very quickly. After the match, there were no doubts about the validity of the red card for Smolarek, as Polonia coach Jacek Zieliński said that Smolarek later admitted in the locker room to the offending conduct.
The strike occurred in 63th minute of the match. As shown by television replays Smolarek hit Arboleda without the ball in the neck for which he was sent off. Since the beginning of the game there have been clashes between the players. Prior to the red card, Smolarek was caught on camera elbowing Arboleda in the neck with the referee’s back turned.
Both players heated the atmosphere long before the match even began through interviews with the media, most especially Smolarek.
“He falls down very fast. He thinks he can catch everyone, but when someone touches him, he starts to cry,” Smolarek said in one interview.
“If the referee sees it, I hope that on Friday he will react to such behavior. I certainly am not afraid of Arboleda.”
The Polish international for his reprehensible behavior during the match against the Kolejorz can expect a severe penalty from the Ekstraklasa League Commission.
