WARSAW, Poland. July 4 (PSN) – Polonia Warszawa has almost completely disappeared from the map of Polish football.
The owner of the Black Shirts, Jozef Wojciechowski, has sold one hundred percent of the shares of the club to a new investor: GKS Katowice, which will use the license from the Warsaw team to play in the Ekstraklasa – informs Przegląd Sportowy.
After an unsuccessful season, Jozef Wojciechowski announced that he will no longer support Polonia Warszawa financially. During summer break from competition the owner of JW Construction began searching for a buyer for the club from Konwiktorska street.
As reported on Tuesday, Przegląd Sportowy, the new owner of the Black Shirts is to be the majority shareholder of GKS Katowice. The process is quite complicated, but the Masovian and Silesian football authorities see no obstacles to its completion.
At the beginning of Polonia would have to unregister from the Masovia Football Association and join the Silesia Football Association. At the same time, the new investor buys from Jozef Wojciechowski, one hundred per cent stake in the club, which then moves the club to Katowice, and changes its name to GKS Katowice.
Thanks to this the Polonia players would get to play in Katowice, and, together with the existing Katowice players, who every day compete in the 1 Liga, to create a team to play in the Ekstraklasa. The last point would be to change the operation of the stadium, because the stadium at Bukowa street, which GKS currently plays at does not meet the licensing requirements of the T-Mobile Ekstraklasa
Sale of Polonia does not mean that the club from the capital would completely disappear from the map of Polish football. Jozef Wojciechowski, promised not to bring down the club. By selling the league license and the player cards, he also wants to leave the rights to the name and colors for resale. In this case, the “new” Polonia would resume its story from playing in the fourth division.
In connection with steps taken to sell the club, Polonia Warszawa players have resumed training with the team of the Mloda Ekstraklasa, under the supervision of Jaroslaw Baki and Piotr Stokowca.
