OLSZTYN, Poland. February 16 (PSN) – Could this be the end of 1 Liga action in Olsztyn? It seems like a strong possibility!
Stomil Olsztyn have suspended its team training schedule and friendly matches. Club president Robert Kildanowicz has made no secret that in the present circumstances it is impossible to work with keeping club activities active.
“We decided that it makes no sense to continue preparations, because really since July 1 of last year, there is no normal conditions for the functioning of a football club here. Since December 1 I am trying to fix other issues completely detached from football,” Kildanowicz told portal SportoweFakty.
Stomil Olsztyn have been hit with heavy financial worries which were recently aggravated by the withdrawal of its main sponsor, shopping mall Galeria Warminska. The situation has since worsened from last year and the possibility of the club going bankrupt is looking more likely.
It has certainly become annoying for the club in Olsztyn due to the fact that these financial problems started to occur primarily just after a very good autumn round, with the team finishing in 5th place in the 1 Liga table. With the club financial situation now growing out of control Stomil has even ceased to train.
“The situation did not allow us to build a better team and allow for preparations under appropriate conditions. (…) we really do not have anywhere to train,”
In the winter, only Miroslaw Jablonski, Piotr Darmochwal and Arkadiusz Koprucki departed the team. However, if the situation persists than far more will be leaving Olsztyn.
For now, Kildanowicz is attempting to keep hopeful for a mysterious investor to save the club.
“There is an entity which wants to invest in Stomil on the condition that the club is transformed into a joint-stock company,” ended Kildanowicz.
