WARSAW, Poland. February 18 (PSN) – It’s official. The UEFA European Under-21 Championships will be held in Poland.
The tournament may be a few years away, but U-21 Polish national team coach Marcin Dorna is already hard at work in planning for the major event.
Few people are actually aware that the construction of the U-21 team, which will play as the host at the UEFA U-21 European Championships in 2017, actually started four years ago.
The man behind it all is none other than Marcin Dorna.
The selection process and team building for the U-21’s is something that Dorna is busy every week, month and year.
He is constantly searching for younger players who he believes have the potential development for the U-21, or even the senior national team. So far a few of Dorna’s younger player’s who made the U-21 have already made some tremendous leaps in their careers.
For Poland supporters this should not come as news. A large group of younger players are developing faster and moving already to play in the senior international team more quickly. A perfect example is the presence of Arkadiusz Milik and Piotr Zielinski on the senior national team in the past year.
Arkadiusz Milik specifically has since molded his way to being an integral part of the mens national team, most notably scoring against Germany in a 2:0 win during UEFA EURO 2016 Qualifying.
According to Dorna, it is also a source of pride and proof that his direction and selection process was correct. The Poland U-21 coach also thinks that the experience gained in the current UEFA U-21 European Championships qualifying round will play a vital role for key players like Pawel Dawidowicz, Karol Linetty, Igor Lasicki and Tomasz Kedziora.
Dorna will also take advantage of the Four Nations Tournament, using the Poland U-20 team there to further monitor and analyze which players he will take for the U-21 side in 2017.
