KATOWICE, Poland. March 20 (PSN) – Grzegorz Proksa on Tuesday was named the new Sporting Director for 1 Liga side GKS Katowice.
The professional boxer is the first to take a management position within a Polish Professional football club.
“We decided to approach this in a rather unconventional way,” said club president Wojciech Cygan at the press conference announcing Proksa as the new GKS Sports Director.
“We did not want the new director to be someone having any coaching ambitions. We also thought that you do not need to be a former player to manage the sports department of our company,” he added.
The club will in the coming days will experience several changes that will be introduced by Proksa.
“I’ve been big fan of GKS since 1991. This is the beginning of my new journey in sport, and immediately I can begin to work for my most beloved club. I have already met with the players and coaching staff. My dream is to attract the greatest number of fans to the stadium and investors to the club. The goal is to raise the level of play of the team.” said the new director.
Proksa noted that he has already decided to take a year off from his boxing career.
“I do not plan to box for 2016. For now I will still continue to train, but I will be doing it for myself and not for professional reasons like before,” added the Myslowice born 31-year-old boxer.
