GYDNIA, Poland. May 22 (PSN) – Both Arka Gydnia and Wisla Plock have gained promotion from the 1 Liga to the Ekstraklasa.
Both teams are not new to the Ekstraklasa, after having previously already played at the top level.
Arka Gydnia achieved promotion first through a 1:1 (0:0) draw with Bytovia Bytow already in the 30th round of 1 Liga play.
The Baltic side were leading the league table for most of the season and were always one of the favourites for promotion.
Wisla Plock had to wait until the 32nd round to guarantee promotion, after winning 5:0 (1:0) with Zawisza Bydgoszcz at home.
Plock are now ten points clear of third-placed Zawisza, who have to play two matches left to play.
The last time Arka featured in the Ekstraklasa was in the 2010/2011 season, while Wisla a little more earlier in 2006/2007.
