AMSTERDAM, Netherlands. February 23 (PSN) – Legia Warsaw lost out to Ajax 0:1 (0:0) in the second leg of the round of 32 of the UEFA Europa League and were eliminated from the competition.
Final score: Ajax Amsterdam – Legia Warsaw 1:0
The winning goal for the Dutch team was scored at the beginning of the second half by Nick Viergever, who was able to pounce on from a rebound by Legia goalkeeper Arkadiusz Malarz in the 49th minute.
Legia only needed to draw the game at the very least in order to advance on the away goals rule but failed to find the back of the net at each opportunity. The first leg ended in a goalless draw in Warsaw.
This is the second time the Dutch side have knocked out the Polish capital club. In the 2014/2015 edition of the UEFA Europa League, Ajax won 4:0 on aggregate and knocked out Legia from the Round of 32.
