Legia Warsaw Invited to the Florida Cup 2018

WARSAW, Poland. October 9 (PSN) – The first winter training camp for Legia Warsaw will take place in the United States in Florida.

The club, as one of three other European teams, has been invited to participate in the Florida Cup 2018 international exhibition tournament – stated the official website of Legia.

As part of the tournament, the team will play two matches – the first against the Colombian Atletico Nacional, whom are the current champions of the Copa Libertadores, and the Barcelona Sporting Club, the champion of Ecuador.

The tournament will be played from January 10th to the 20th.

“Participating in the Florida Cup 2018 will be a great addition to our first winter camp. The combination of great infrastructure and ideal climate, with very high level of matches, creates excellent conditions for us building form before our spring games. I am convinced that we will be gathering a lot of valuable experiences that will come in the second half of the season, “said Romeo Jozak, Legia coach.

The Florida Cup 2018 is the fourth edition of the international tournament held in the “Sunny State” of the USA since 2015. The winner of the first edition was FC Koeln.

“The Florida Cup is very popular with recognized clubs from all over the world. Our goal is always to provide the highest quality football for the fans, while providing clubs with great training facilities. We expect the forthcoming fourth edition of the Florida Cup to be an event that can not be missed on the international football calendar, “said tournament director Ricardo Villar.

The Florida Cup has a lot of interest not only in the United States. The previous edition of the tournament was broadcast live to more than 140 countries and watched over 50 million people together.

“We are pleased that our international activity and the Legia Warsaw brand have resulted in an invitation to this prestigious tournament. Florida is the perfect place for winter football teams, which has already confirmed the presence of many leading European clubs in recent years. For Legia, it’s not just a chance to train in excellent conditions and confront with demanding rivals, but equally important for the chance to present ourselves to the public in the United States. We know that we have our fans and fan clubs there, especially among the numerous Polish communities living in America. Participation in the Florida Cup will be a great opportunity to meet with them directly,” said Tomasz Zahorski, a the representative of the Legia board.

Clubs whom along with Legia that will take part in the tournament are: PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), Rangers FC (Scotland), Corinthians (Brazil), Atletico Mineiro (Brazil), Fluminense FC (Brazil), Atletico Nacional (Colombia) and Barcelona SC (Ecuador)

January 13 – Barcelona SC (Fort Lauderdale)
January 20 – CD Club Atlético Nacional (St. Petersburg)
