Nawalka: I Take Responsibility for Our World Cup Failure

KAZAN, Russia. June 24 (PSN) – Poland on Sunday in their second 2018 FIFA World Cup group stage game lost 3:0 to Colombia, and as a result have been eliminated from the tournament.

“We say goodbye to the World Cup in a very sad way for everyone.” said Adam Nawalka in the post-game press conference.

“The players put in a lot of effort into this match, they fought to the last whistle, but it turned out that it wasn’t enough.

“The match was very bad for us. We were on equal footing with them at first, but we lost a goal after a fixed play. Later, we had nothing to lose, so we tried to play more offensively, hence such and not other changes. We had to take a chance and go on the counterattack. As a result, we lost 0:3. We regret it very much and we are really angry, but you have to be able to live with it. After all, tomorrow is another day.

“For me, this failure hurts the most, I take responsibility for it. This is football. Such results happen. Everyone played at their best, but it was not enough to achieve a good result.

“We knew perfectly well how dangerous the Colombian team is, how outstanding the players they have in their starting eleven are, playing in some of the best clubs. Hence our pre-match strategy to attack from the very first minutes and try to quickly score, and play carefully in the defensive and go out for quick attacks.

“However, the Colombians were better and I think they will make a lot of noise in this World Cup.

“The opponent was better in terms of the quality of playing and maintaining the ball, in this aspect we could not match them at all.

“As for today’s squad, I combined the team optimally. The players who stood out in previous matches or practices in Russia got their chance. You have to make bold decisions, and only after the match you see the results. There were players on the pitch today, who in my opinion were the best prepared for that.

“For the match against Japan, this rival is very well disposed, it is a team that plays very collectively. You can see the automatism in the game, repeatability, but also a lot of individual skills. We will try to play as best as we can.”
