PKO Ekstraklasa Round 16: Pogon Outplay Legia for Battle Over First Place

SZCZECIN, Poland. Nov 25 (PSN) – Pogon Szczecin confidently defeated Legia Warsaw at home and take first place in the standings after the sixteenth round of the 2019/2020 PKO Ekstraklasa season.

In a battle for first place, favourites Legia found themselves disappointing in Szczecin on Saturday. The first half saw Pogon firmly take control of the match and little would after change. Adam Buksa, who was left unchallenged in the penalty box and gave Pogon the lead with a goal in the 38th minute. Legia should had afterwards equalized in the 57th minute, but winger Pawel Wszolek failed to take advantage of a one-on-one situation. Ten minutes later, Pogon raised the score to 2:0 with Srdjan Spiridonovic flicking the ball over Radoslaw Majecki. Buksa would then close things in the 73rd minute, converting a penalty to see Pogon 3:0 over the capital side. Legia’s Jaroslaw Niezgoda did later find the back of the net, but it hardly had any effect in the momentum of the game – which was largely in Pogon’s favour.
