PKO Ekstraklasa Round 30: Shock In Zabrze as Legia Crumble

ZABRZE, Poland. June 14 (PSN) – Legia Warsaw were hit with a shocking defeat in Silesia in the thirtieth round of the 2019/2020 PKO Ekstraklasa season.

On Sunday, league leaders and match favourites Legia lost 0:2 away to midtable side Gornik Zabrze. The capital city club started off dominating most of the first half, with the nervous Gornik forced to keep at bay. However, the hosts were able to calm down a bit in the 29th minute after Legia goalkeeper Radoslaw Majeski fumbled the ball into his own net off a weak long effort by Jesus Jimenez, which resulted as the opening goal. Legia continued to press, but Gornik went into the second half as a more confident team. That confidence later paid off with Igor Angulo heading a second goal in during a set piece to cement the win. While Legia’s loss to Gornik today was a surprise to everyone, they still are seven points ahead of Piast Gliwice in the standings. However, they should still remain cautious, as last season they found themselves in the exact same situation, yet it was Piast who ended up winning the title instead.
